Shirali T. Patel, MD

Dr. Patel specializes in pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery. She is board-certified in general surgery. She did two fellowships, one in vascular surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and the second pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Patel and Dr. Cunningham work together as a team to offer world-class, multidisciplinary, thoughtful, personalized evaluation and treatment of a broad spectrum of pancreatic, biliary and liver diseases, both benign (noncancerous) and malignant (cancer surgery). She is also a leader at Saint Agnes Hospital in minimally invasive surgery and hernia surgery. She has been a practicing surgeon since 2014. Dr. Patel graduated from Saint George's University School of Medicine in 2006. She then went on to do a general surgery residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. Before medicine, she earned a BS in physiological science from UCLA. After graduating, she served as a medical volunteer in Ghana, Africa and upon her return to the States she worked as an EMT prior to starting medical school. Her inspiration for Medicine comes from having the opportunity and desire to help others. Dr. Patel has gone on numerous medical missions across the globe that include India, Africa, and Vietnam. Those experiences have been rewarding and helped her fulfill her dream of service to others. She has authored numerous research papers, abstracts and book chapters. Her research interests have been in GI related cancers and the training for surgical fellowships. She was born and raised in Harbor City, California. When not in the office, hospital, or operating room, she enjoys traveling. She likes to stay active with snowboarding and hiking, and to relax with a good movie
