Pensacola woman finds breast cancer care at Ascension Sacred Heart
Dr. Zachary Wright, oncologist at Ascension Sacred Heart Cancer Center helps retired Pensacola teacher through breast cancer diagnosis.
When Beth B. retired after 34 years of teaching, she looked forward to enjoying time with friends, family, and her love of reading. Today, she’s navigating a new chapter in life with the support of Dr. Zachary Wright, medical oncologist, and the team at Ascension Sacred Heart Cancer Center.
Beth first met Dr. Wright shortly after receiving her diagnosis of breast cancer. “Dr. Wright is approachable, he explains things clearly, and I felt confident in his care from the beginning,” she said.
Dr. Wright believes trust and encouragement are as important as medical expertise. “For every patient, I want them to know they’re not walking this journey alone. My job is to bring the latest science and treatments, but also to listen, encourage, and stand beside them every step of the way,” he said.
Beth’s treatment plan has included regular chemotherapy appointments, and she says the kindness of the staff makes a lasting impact. “Everybody at the cancer center is just so nice and friendly. You feel cared about when you walk in.”
She also credits her family and friends for giving her strength throughout the process. Each week, loved ones reach out to check in on her treatment days, reminding her that she’s not facing this journey alone.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to remind women of the importance of early detection. Beth encourages others to stay proactive about their health. “Make your mammogram [appointment] as soon as possible,” she advised. “If something is found, the earlier you begin, the better.”
Yearly mammograms, knowing your family history, and talking openly with your doctor about any concerns are powerful steps women can take to protect their health.
