Ascension Medical Group hernia specialist recognized by national quality collaborative

Ragnar Peterson, MD, Ascension Medical Group Via Christi hernia surgeon, recognized nationally for quality care.

Ragnar Peterson, MD, with Ascension Medical Group Via Christi, has been named to the Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative’s inaugural list of Verified Surgeons of Quality.

“This is an enormous honor and testament to the hard work of our entire Comprehensive Hernia Center Team,” said Peterson. He is one of 35 surgeons out of 442 participating surgeons nationwide to be recognized through the new program launched in June, which is national Hernia Awareness Month.

Dr. Peterson leads the Comprehensive Hernia Center, which is the only verified Hernia Center of Excellence in the state of Kansas and the Ascension system. Working in collaboration the multidisciplinary team works to treat patients over the entire spectrum of abdominal wall disease from simple spontaneous disease to recurrent disease, fistula, and loss of domain.

Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa’s comprehensive approach to hernia care includes prehabilitation and optimization, tailored plans of therapy, use of minimally invasive techniques when possible, and close patient follow-up.

The goal of the non-profit ACHQC program is to recognize and distinguish participating surgeons for their dedication to improving the quality and value of health care for patients who suffer from hernia disease and diseases of the abdominal wall or abdominal core.

Verified Surgeons of Quality demonstrate a commitment to consistent entry of data into its registry and participation in its continuous quality improvement programs. Importantly, patients recognize that surgeons who focus on optimizing hernia surgical outcomes can provide an enhanced level of care.
