Well Care

Children should be seen on a routine basis for check-ups or well child care. From birth to 2 years, children are seen on a more frequent basis due to the rapid changes that occur with growth and development. Babies are seen a few days after going home from the hospital and again at 2 weeks. Routine well child checks then occur at 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 months, 2 year, and 2 1/2 years. After this time, they should be seen yearly beginning at 3 years. It is important to schedule a check-up at these regular intervals even if your child has been in for frequent illness. At these visits, we monitor your child's growth, development and screen for important diseases. The yearly physicals can be scheduled around your child's birthday. The summer months are the busiest time of year for physicals. These appointments are booked in advance and are not same day appointments.

You must fully immunize your child to be a patient of Providence Park Pediatrics.

Sick Visits

When your child is ill, you will almost always be able to be seen the same day or the following day. As pediatricians, we understand that many illnesses in children should not wait many days before being seen. This is especially true of infants. If you are unsure whether or not your child should be evaluated for an illness, please call our office and discuss this with one of our nurses.

Prescription Refills

If your child is on regular medication and you need a prescription refill, our nurse line has a message system. Please make every effort to call in advance. If you need a refill the same day, it is best to speak with one of the nurses directly. We would appreciate if you do not call on Saturdays for routine medications. If your child is on regular medication for any reason, we must see your child for a yearly physical!

Flu Update

The flu vaccine shipment is expected around October 1st. Please call after October 1st to schedule your child’s appointment.

Specialist Referrals Process

All patients will be referred to a specialist in the Ascension Medical Group. This includes physical therapy. If we are unable to provide the care for your child in the Ascension Medical Group, you will be referred out of network.

Generally you will need to see one of our physicians before being referred to a specialist. Your PCP will write the name of the specialist that they want you to see on the encounter and a member of our staff will give you the phone number when you check out. After you make your child's appointment, please call 248-465-4847 and Press 3 for referrals and follow the prompts.

Office Hours

Our physicans are available until 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, and are on-call for emergency support. We also hold Saturday hours at our facility. Our support staff can assist you with entering vaccine details into MCIR.

VIEW OUR WELCOME LETTER

Occasionally our office hours may vary due to staff or hospital meetings. After hours, there is always a physician available by pager for urgent matters. The on-call physician can be reached by calling our regular office number and following the instructions on the answering machine. During regular office hours, we have registered nurses to assist with questions that may arise between regular visits or to give guidance during an illness.

There is an additional charge of $25.00 for appointments made at 5:00 pm or later or on Saturday. Your insurance may or may not cover this additional charge. We encourage you to make your appointments early in the day to avoid longer wait times.

Wait Time

We try our best to see our patients in an efficient manner. However, there are times when the wait time may be longer than anticipated. When a child is scheduled to be seen, the full extent of an illness may not be predictable. Something may be believed to be a simple visit, but then may end up being a much more complex or emergency type of problem. Our most important goal is to provide quality care.

Please arrive on time. Being late will affect not only you, but also all the appointment times after you. If you are late, we may ask that you reschedule your appointment. We understand there may be occasional extenuating circumstances, but please call and let our staff know. Arriving early does not mean you will be seen sooner. It may actually prolong your wait. We understand your time is valuable and we will continue to do our best at caring for your child.

After Hours

A pediatrician is available after hours on-call for urgent calls and illness. Call our regular office number and the answering machine will direct you as to which physician to page. Routine questions or medication refills should occur during regular office hours. We generally do not prescribe antibiotics over the phone. This can be unsafe if we do not know what we are really treating. If your child is acutely ill, we may instruct you to go to the emergency room or urgent care. For certain illnesses, we may call medication into the pharmacy, so please have a pharmacy number available when you page the physician. This will often need to be a 24-hour pharmacy.

Insurance

Please be sure to know your insurance coverage. If you have an HMO type of plan, you will need a referral to see a specialist. We will generally need to see your child for the problem before you are referred. This way, we can help you see the appropriate doctor. Certain insurances do not cover things like well child care or vaccines. Some have a cap on the coverage. Please read over your policy. Our staff is available to help you, but it is important for you to know what is covered.
