Face surgery

Plastic surgeons at Ascension Saint Agnes offer personalized surgery options, including face and neck lifts, nose reconstruction and more.

Eyelid Surgery

Do your eyes look tired? Do you have puffiness under the eyes or a sagging upper eyelid? Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can help change the appearance of your eye and lift sagging eyelids.

Upper and lower eyelid surgery are delicate procedures that require exceptional skill and experience. The surgeons at Ascension Saint Agnes Plastic Surgery have performed these surgeries for years on both male and female patients, providing a natural and youthful appearance. We customize every eyelid surgery based on your body and how you wish to look.

During your consultation, we will discuss your concerns about your appearance and your goals for your eyelid surgery, as well as your medical history, medications you take, and previous procedures you have had. Specific attention will be paid to your eyebrow location, upper eyelid function, lower eyelid laxity, and the shape of your eyelids. We will also answer all of your questions, explain what to expect from surgery, and tell you how to prepare for your surgery.

What to expect during eyelid surgery

If you have upper eyelid surgery, the incision is placed within the folds of the upper lids where the scar will be hidden. Excess skin and fat are removed so that the upper lids will be tighter and more youthful. The incisions are sutured.

Lower eyelid surgery does not always involve skin excision, but fatty tissue may be removed if you have bags under the eyes. The incision is placed either on the underside of the lower lid or just under the lower eyelashes.

We can perform blepharoplasty with local anesthesia and sedation or with a general anesthetic. Your surgeon will discuss this with you during your consultation.

Facelift

At Ascension Saint Agnes Plastic Surgery, we customize every facelift based on your facial structure and how you wish to look. If you have sagging skin along the lower eyelid, nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose to the mouth), or the jaw area, a facelift may be right for you.

As we age, the downward shift of underlying facial muscles and soft tissue of the face cause us to look older. A correctly performed facelift will not only lift the skin but also lift the underlying tissue to its optimal youthful position. This restores fullness to the areas below the eyelid, lifts the sagging midface area, and tightens the jawline and upper neckline. Since we tighten and lift the muscles and soft tissues of the face, not just the skin, your facelift will look natural and will be long-lasting.

During your consultation, we will discuss your concerns about your appearance and your goals for your facelift. Please bring a photo of yourself when you were younger, if possible. Based on our examination of your facial structure, we will recommend the type of procedure, as well as any other recommendations, to provide the results you want. We will also answer all of your questions, explain what to expect from surgery, and tell you how to prepare for your surgery.

What to expect during a facelift

There are two kinds of face lifts: A “full facelift” or a “short scar facelift” (also called “mini-facelift”). A full facelift requires a longer incision from the temple area, extending downward in front of the ear, around the earlobe and behind the ear. The scar is hidden either behind the ear or within the hairline. This type of facelift addresses the areas just below the lower eyelid, the nasolabial folds, and the jaw area.

A short scar facelift incision starts lower, usually closer to the ear, and extends around the back of the earlobe. This type of facelift is for those who do not have sagging in the lower eyelid area. Instead, it addresses the nasolabial folds and the jaw area. This less extensive facelift can sometimes be performed in the office so that you can avoid a visit to the outpatient surgery center.

In both cases, after the incision is made, your surgeon will remove excess skin and tighten and lift the underlying tissues of the face.

Neck lift

If your neck area has loose skin or extra fat or you have lost the youthful appearance of a sharp neck angle, a neck lift can correct for the effects of aging by removing the extra skin and fat. A neck lift is often performed at the same time as a facelift.

During your consultation, we will discuss with you the best neck lift option for you. This may involve either liposuction alone or fat removal with muscle tightening and skin excision. Our goal at Ascension Saint Agnes Plastic Surgery is to provide a neck lift that meets your expectations.

If the neck lift procedure is performed with other procedures such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, or a brow lift, the procedures may be performed in the hospital.

Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)

Nasal reshaping can correct and improve on tip definition, reduce or increase nasal projection, straighten a crooked nose, and reduce a dorsal hump.

During your consultation, we will discuss your expectations as well as the limitations of the procedure. The technique for the rhinoplasty will be discussed along with the complexity of the nasal surgery. Other factors, such as breathing problems, facial symmetry, bony and cartilage structure will also be reviewed with you.

Nasal surgery is most commonly performed with either a septoplasty to correct for a deviated septum and improve breathing. This surgery is performed with an Ascension ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon.

What to expect during a rhinoplasty

We usually perform the surgery under general anesthesia in the hospital as an outpatient procedure. The procedure lasts between two to four hours. After surgery, you’ll have splints both inside and outside your nose to minimize the swelling and help your newly transformed nose keep its shape. You’ll need to leave the nasal splint in place on the outside of your nose for one to two weeks. The septal splint will stay in place for about one week. After five to seven days, you’ll return for a follow-up appointment to have your sutures removed.
