Mauricio F. Hong, MD, is a cardiac electrophysiologist at Ascension Texas Cardiovascular in Austin, Texas. Dr. Hong specializes in diagnosing and treating atrial fibrillation (AFib), a type of arrhythmia in which your heartbeat is irregular, either too fast or too slow. Other symptoms may include chest pain, sweating, fatigue, shortness of breath, and weakness. Dr. Hong starts by listening to understand you and uses diagnostic testing to help determine the cause of your irregular heartbeat. Then, Dr. Hong delivers state-of-the-art procedures and medical treatments to correct arrhythmias, irregular heart rhythms, and help prevent stroke.

He performs minimally invasive cardiac ablation procedures using radiofrequency (RF), pulsed field ablation (PFA) and cryoablation therapy. He implants cardiac devices when needed such as pacemakers (leadless and traditional systems), defibrillators (trasvenous, subcutaneous and substernal systems), cardiac resynchronization technology, electrical cardioversions, and implantable loop recorders (ILR) to help restore a normal heartbeat.

Dr. Hong enjoys teaching and is the program director of our Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship.

Dr. Hong has an interest in conducting clinical research to advance the field of medicine. He serves as principal investigator (PI) in many clinical trials.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Hong enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, two children and his dog, Toffee.
