Ascension in Michigan midwifery care

Certified nurse midwives are also an important part of your care team. Our midwives provide gynecology and maternity care services including:

  • Annual well-woman exams and screenings
  • Care during labor and delivery
  • Emotional and mental health support
  • Menopause care
  • Postpartum care
  • Prenatal care and additional information on pregnancy, birthing and breastfeeding
  • Support for natural birthing experience with less medical intervention

If additional care is needed during pregnancy or birth, we can connect you with OB-GYNs and other specialists at our hospitals and birthing centers to provide the care you need.

Advanced care for high-risk pregnancy

Not everyone will need more specialized, high-risk care during their pregnancy, labor or delivery. But if you do, we are ready to provide you and your baby with that extra level of expertise. Our maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialists work with your OB-GYN to deliver care for high-risk pregnancies and other health concerns.

If your child needs more advanced care, we have Level II special care nurseries and Level III NICUs available. We also have a cord blood bank onsite at Ascension St. John Hospital.

Take a tour or attend a childbirth class

At Ascension in Michigan, we’re here to answer your questions and provide support throughout and after your pregnancy. During your prenatal check-ups, your OB-GYN or certified nurse midwife will tell you about support services and childbirth classes that are available to you. By taking childbirth classes, you can learn more about your birthing options and what to expect.
