Thank you for your interest in volunteering. We appreciate the time and talents volunteers provide. A typical volunteer commits to one four-hour shift per week. Some opportunities may be available for shorter time commitments. Orientation, training and support are provided for all areas. Not all assignments, days and times listed are currently available. The St. Elizabeth Hospital Volunteer Services department strives to offer placement opportunities that will meet both the organization’s needs and the volunteer’s interests and availability. Placement will be determined at the time of your interview. ADVANCE DIRECTIVES FACILITATOR/WITNESS
(Adults Only, As Needed) Volunteers in this role complete a training program to become a facilitator or witness who can assist individuals in the completion of their written instruction that state their health care choices regarding health care decisions.
Once trained the volunteer can facilitate sessions or act as a witness to the signing of this document.

BABY HAT KNITTERS
(Adults Only, projects completed at home) For more than six decades, volunteers have been supplying knit hats to babies born at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Volunteers knit hats while at home.
Yarn and pattern are provided. Donated hats are also accepted.

CANCER CENTER
(Minimum Age 18, Monday – Friday, Morning or Mid Morning Shifts) Volunteers provide comfort for patients and families by rounding on the oncology patients and/or their family members and taking care of their needs. Volunteers perform a variety of tasks for staff and patients, including transporting/escorting patients, stocking rooms and straightening areas. Other duties may include scanning documents and filing. Excellent customer service and communication skills and ability to push a wheelchair required.

CHILDRENS HEALTH CENTER
(Minimum Age 16, Monday – Thursday 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.) Volunteers provide general assistance to staff by escorting patients to departments within St. Elizabeth Hospital, entertaining waiting children and providing limited clerical support.

CLERICAL SUPPORT (See requirement for each individual department below))
Volunteers provide clerical assistance to staff that may include data entry, filing records, assisting with mailings, stocking office supplies, photocopying, scanning, faxing, and other office duties as requested. The volunteer may work close with several staff as well as work alone. Past computer experience is required for most assignments listed below. The St. Elizabeth Hospital departments that currently utilize clerical volunteers include:

• Affinity Medical Group (AMG) - Heart, Lung & Vascular Center (Adults Only, Monday – Friday, Flexible Day Shift)
• Breast Center (Minimum Age 16, Monday – Friday, Morning Shifts) Assignment may also require pulling patient files from the file room.
• Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation (Adults Only, Monday–Friday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Also requires some receptionist duties.
• Case Management (Adults Only, Monday – Friday, Flexible Day Shift) Assignment also requires stocking materials on the patient units.
• Diagnostic Imaging – Radiation Oncology (Adults Only, Monday – Friday, Flexible Day Shift)
• Genetic Counseling (Minimum Age 18, Monday – Friday, Flexible Day Shift)
• Health Information (Medical Records) (Minimum Age 17, Monday – Friday, Flexible Day Shifts) Assignment requires proficiency in alphabetizing.
  

DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING - CT SCANNING
(Minimum Age 17, Monday – Friday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Volunteers perform a variety of tasks for staff and patients, including escorting patients, running errands and paper work.

DRIVER-MOTORIZED CART
(Minimum Age 18, Monday – Friday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Volunteer provides guest transport through the first floor hallways within St. Elizabeth Hospital via a golf cart. Excellent customer service and communication skills required. Must maintain a valid Wisconsin drivers license and pass competency.

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
(Adults Only, Monday – Friday, Flexible Shift) Volunteers assist staff with basic cleaning services. Volunteers do not work in infectious areas nor work with hazardless material.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTER
(Catholic Adults Only, Daily Flexible Shifts) As a member of the Catholic faith, trained volunteers provide the Sacrament of the Eucharist to patients and visitors within the hospital. Volunteers also assist with church services when requested.   
 
FACILITIES SERVICES-MAINTENANCE
(Adults Only, Monday – Friday, Flexible Day Shift) Volunteers provide assistance to maintenance staff by performing routine preventative maintenance on wheelchairs. Other duties or special projects may be assigned.

FACILITIES SERVICES-YARD MAINTENANCE
(Adults Only, Monday – Friday, Flexible Day Shifts) Volunteers provide assistance to maintenance staff by performing routine up keep to the St. Elizabeth campus. Other duties or special projects may be assigned.

FUNDRAISING
(Minimum Age 16, Monday – Friday, As Needed) Be involved with variety of fundraising activities to generate charitable funds to enhance St. Elizabeth Hospital patient care. Funds raised through volunteer events are annually pledged to St. Elizabeth Hospital to purchase equipment or programs or provide scholarships to local students. Volunteer assist the vendors on the day of the fundraiser.

GIFT SHOP BOOKKEEPER
(Adults Only, Monday – Friday, Flexible Day Shift) Volunteer provides general assistance to staff by organizing, verifying, compiling and imputing gift shop income information. Use of computer and knowledge of Excel and QuickBooks is necessary.

GIFT SHOP or ONE STOP SALESPERSON
(Minimum Age 16, Monday – Friday Morning & Afternoon; Minimum Age 18 Weekday Evening Shifts & Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Shift) The St. Elizabeth Hospital Gift Shop or One Stop are cheery places to spend time as a volunteer and are great places to shop. Volunteers greet customers and assist with baby gifts, fashionable jewelry, trendy clothing and many other unique items. Volunteers run a cash register and handle sales via cash/credit cards/gift certificates/employee payroll deduction. They occasionally deliver gifts or flower orders to patient units. Volunteers also price, stock, dust and straighten merchandise as needed. The St. Elizabeth Hospital Gift Shop and One Stop are major fundraisers; proceeds benefit the Volunteers’ annual pledge to the hospital and local student scholarships.

INFORMATION DESKS

FREMONT TOWER INFORMATION DESK
(Minimum Age 17, Monday–Friday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Volunteers greet and provide information to visitors and patients while creating a warm and welcoming environment. They are very often the first and last contact a person may have at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Duties include providing wheelchair transport or general escort to areas on the campus, providing information and keeping the desk and lobby area tidy. Excellent customer service and communication skills and ability to push a wheelchair required. Volunteers use a computer to access information. Good computer, way finding and telephone skills required.

ONEDIA WALK INFORMATION DESK (Minimum Age 17, Monday–Friday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Volunteers greet and provide information to visitors and patients while creating a warm and welcoming environment. They are very often the first and last contact a person may have at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Duties include providing wheelchair transport or general escort to areas on the campus, providing information and keeping the desk and lobby area tidy. Excellent customer service and communication skills and ability to push a wheelchair is required. Volunteers use a computer to access information. Excellent computer, way finding and telephone skills are also required.

WELCOME CENTER (Minimum Age 16, Monday–Friday, Morning, Afternoon & Evening Shifts) Volunteers greet and escort or provide wheelchair transport to visitors and patients within the facility. Deliver flowers and mail to patients. Replenish area with wheelchairs.  Assist staff in providing information when requested and also help to keep the desk and lobby area tidy. Ability to push a wheelchair is required.

INPATIENT UNITS

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH-ADULT UNIT
(Minimum Age 18, Monday – Friday Morning, Evening Shifts, Saturday & Sunday, Afternoon or Evening Shifts) Volunteer provides patient support to include activities games, x-box connect newspaper/current periodicals etc. Volunteers also provide clerical and organizational support.

FREMONT TOWER PATIENT UNIT VOLUNTEER AMBASSADOR
(Minimum Age 17, Monday – Friday Morning, Afternoon & Evening Shifts, Saturday & Sunday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Volunteer Ambassadors on the patient units will greet family and visitors and welcome them to the unit. They will assist with way finding to patient rooms and hospital areas. While providing hospitality services in the family waiting area or patient rooms, volunteers will be sensitive and proactive to family, visitor or patient needs and serve as a resource for hospital and community information.

ONEIDA TOWER PATIENT UNIT VOLUNTEER AMBASSADOR-WOMEN & FAMILIES
(Minimum Age 17, Monday – Friday Morning, Afternoon & Evening Shifts, Saturday & Sunday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Volunteer Ambassadors on the patient unit will greet family and visitors and welcome them to the unit. They will assist with way finding to patient rooms and hospital areas. While providing hospitality services in the family waiting area or patient rooms, volunteers will be sensitive and proactive to family, visitor or patient needs and serve as a resource for hospital and community information. Volunteers also provide specific unit clerical and organizational support.
 
NEONATAL ICU (NICU) AMBASSADOR
(Minimum Age 18, Monday – Sunday, Morning, Afternoon & Evening Shifts) Volunteers sit at the main desk to greet, grant access, register and orient family members to the procedures of the NICU. Volunteers also provide specific unit clerical and organizational support.  NURTURER (Minimum Age 18, As Needed) This is an additional opportunity for volunteers who are able to pass the competency for holding babies. Volunteers hold and provide appropriate stimulation to babies who need extra attention.

NEONATAL ICU (NICU) FAMILY HOST
(Adults Only, As Needed) A Family Host volunteer is a specially selected, screened, and trained volunteer. Because of their personal experiences, talents, adequate time availability, and high level of commitment to assist NICU families, these volunteers can be a tremendously impactful part of our families’ experience. Under the leadership, direction, and supervision of the Information and Referral Specialist at the Northeast Regional Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN), this volunteer visits families in the NICU to help provide comfort and information to NICU families and to promote the philosophy of family centered care in NICUs.

PATIENT REGISTRATION
(Minimum Age 16, Monday-Friday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts; Saturday & Sunday Morning Shifts) Volunteers escort newly registered patients to appropriate area. Provide wheelchair transport within the facility when needed and deliver and/or retrieve paperwork from other departments as requested. Ability to push a wheelchair is required.

PET THERAPY
(Adults Only, Daily, Morning, Afternoon & Evening Shifts) Volunteers and their certified dogs provide an opportunity for patients, visitors and staff to experience the socialization, entertainment and other benefits that contact with an animal may have, specific to each patient’s needs and interests. Visits may provide them with a diverse experience which offers comfort and joy and could enhance healing, may ease pain, give hope and to improve morale. Each therapy dog needs to be certified under the Therapy Dogs Incorporated criteria or a similar organization which can provide written proof of insurance coverage.

REHAB–MILKY WAY (Off Site Location) or REHAB – MIDWAY CLINIC (Off Site Location)
(Minimum Age 17, Monday– Friday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Working with the Physical Therapists, volunteers provide a variety of services to staff. This may include some office procedures, folding and stocking linens, cleaning and putting away equipment, and transporting patients from treatment areas to the waiting areas. Volunteers perform these duties while being able to observe patients.

SPECIAL EVENTS VOLUNTEERS
(Minimum Age 16 – As Needed) These volunteers assist at special events held for the benefit of St. Elizabeth Hospital. Experience in working on events of this nature is helpful. Organizational ability is required.

SURGERY- JOINT CAMP PROGRAM (Adults Only, Wednesday, 7:30 AM – Noon) Volunteers assist staff with the half day group education session for joint replacement patients. Duties include setting up area and signage, setting out refreshments, escorting patients to the conference rooms, general cleanup and breakdown at conclusion of session.

SURGERY & PROCEDURES AREA - SPA
(Minimum Age 18, Monday-Friday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Volunteers provide comfort for families of patients during surgery and postoperative recovery by rounding on the patients and/or their family members and taking care of their needs. Volunteers provide appropriate information as needed, activity items, beverages, support and their personal time to waiting family members.
In addition volunteers round on the Infusion Suite located in the SPA. Duties also include cleaning gurneys and making up with new sheets and blankets, running errands for staff/patients/family, and assembling charts/paperwork. Position may require wheelchair transport of patients.

SURGERY WAITING ROOM – MIDWAY CLINIC LOCATION
(Adults Only, Monday-Friday, Morning & Afternoon Shifts) Volunteers serve as the liaison between the surgical staff, patients and the waiting family by keeping families informed of the patient’s progress from surgery to the recovery room. Volunteers maintain the snack area and keep the waiting room tidy. Volunteer may be asked to perform clerical and special project assembly work.

TOUR GUIDE (ST.  ELIZABETH HOSPITAL CAMPUS)
(Adults Only, Monday-Friday, Scheduled 90 Minute Tours) Guide new associates (employees) and volunteers on a tour of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Campus allowing them to gain knowledge of way finding and location of departments and services.
