Care After Discharge

Information on care after discharge from Ascension Providence Hospital Alternative Birthing Center.

We encourage our families to stay at least 24 hours after your baby’s birth.  During this time, your baby is examined by a family doctor or pediatrician.  You are given instructions on how to prepare for your first days at home including any warning signs for feeding problems, adequate voids and bowel movements, jaundice, breathing difficulties, and general appearance.

We strongly recommend having another adult in your home for the first 72 hours after discharge.  Extra help allows you to care for your baby, and have time to rest and recover.  Once you are home, it is your responsibility to care for yourself and your baby.

We will call you to check on your progress.  If you have any questions or concerns, you can call us any time at 248-849-3919.
