Pediatric audiology tests
If your newborn does not pass their hearing test at the hospital, your doctor may refer you to our care team for additional hearing tests. We deliver the recommended 1-3-6 month approach for follow-up testing and care. Other pediatric audiology tests include:
- Behavioral audiometry: This test is used to detect the softest level of sound a child can hear across different frequencies and speech. The method of testing may vary depending on the child’s age and abilities.
- Extended high-frequency audiometry: This test is used to check the hearing status of children who have been exposed to potentially ototoxic medications (medications that can damage the ear), such as chemotherapy.
- Otoacoustic emissions testing: This hearing test measures sound within the hearing organ, called the cochlea.
- Tympanometry: This hearing test evaluates the middle ear.
Hearing aid devices and assistive listening technology
We work with your doctor to recommend a hearing treatment plan. Listening with hearing aids or cochlear implants takes practice. We help you adapt to your device and fit the device during adjustment appointments. We also provide information about how assistive listening devices, such as telephone amplifiers, microphones and TV listening devices may help improve your quality of life.
Hearing aid options options include:
- Bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHA)
- Cochlear implants
- Traditional behind-the-ear digital hearing aids with Bluetooth
For some conditions, surgery may be recommended as part of your care plan. ENT doctors are surgical specialists and perform many ENT procedures, including cochlear hearing implantation, thyroid surgery, implanting ear tubes, tonsil removal, sinus surgery and more. Whenever possible, we use minimally invasive surgery. With this type of surgery, small incisions are used, which may lead to less pain and a shorter recovery. Your doctor takes the time to explain the procedure to you, and helps you understand what to expect before and after your surgery.
