The Ascension Via Christi Pediatric Sedation team is available for procedures that may be painful, provoke anxiety or require immobility or cooperation. These procedures include:
- MRI
- CT scan
- Nuclear medicine studies
- Voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG)
- Lumbar puncture (LP)
- Biopsies
- PICC line placement
- Auditory brainstem response test (ABR)
- Electroencephalogram (EEG)
- Other lab tests
- Vaccinations

NPO guidelines
NPO, or “nothing by mouth,” is a period of time where you cannot eat foods or drink beverages. Restrictions may vary as you get closer to the procedure.
- 6 hours prior to test — Solid food, breast milk, infant formula, enteral feeds
- 2 hours prior to test — Small amounts of water, ice chips
