History
Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan is an acute care facility licensed to operate 150 beds in two facilities, this private, not-for-profit organization was created in 1996 by combining The Saint Mary Hospital and Memorial Hospital. We strive to promote community health by providing quality, compassionate healthcare services that embrace our values of quality, human dignity and community. Emergency room
The ER at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan offers high-quality medical services by physicians with specialty training in emergency medicine to roughly 24,000 patients each year. We are equipped to handle all situations, from emergencies such as heart attacks, to other urgent illnesses and injuries.
With 16 treatment rooms available for a variety of emergency situations, the ER is physician-staffed 24 hours a day, with physician assistants, nurses, technicians and other staff providing additional support.
In addition to physicians who specialize in emergency medicine, physicians in other medical specialties throughout the hospital are available for consultation with the ER.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) / Forensic Nursing program
Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan has a team of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) on staff to provide a comprehensive forensic examination in the event a patient has been sexually assaulted.
Services offered include:
- Immediate medical care by a trained Emergency Room physician
- Forensic examination with a trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)
- Advocacy support from the Crisis Center
- Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) preventative treatment
- Assistance with coordinating follow-up care and support

Heart care and cardiac rehabilitation
Our experienced care team at Via Christi Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation in Manhattan, Kansas, provides cardiac rehabilitation following a heart attack, diagnosis of heart failure or heart surgery. Nurses, exercise specialists and dietitians work with you to help safely strengthen your heart and lungs and manage your symptoms during recovery.
Participating in cardiac rehabilitation
A doctor's referral is required to participate in the program. Medicare Part B and other private health insurance plans provide a covered benefit for participating in general or intensive cardiac rehabilitation. Exercise options after completing the program
Via Christi provides a wellness program, called “Phase 3 Rehab”, with the goal to provide for adults with chronic heart and lung disease to continue their progress with supervision and support from an experienced team in cardiac rehabilitation. Participants in Phase 3 quickly become part of a supportive network of individuals with shared experiences.
