Endoscopic weight-loss procedures
We provide minimally invasive surgical options that may help shorten your recovery time, including endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, endoscopic sleeve revision and endoscopic gastric bypass revision. These non-surgical procedures help you to lose weight by reducing the size of your stomach and changing how your body absorbs nutrients. Your appetite decreases and your stomach gets fuller with less food. Endoscopic procedures can help you lose weight or revise a previous weight-loss surgery.
Benefits of endoscopic weight loss
Endoscopic bariatrics are minimally invasive procedures that leave no scarring and have a quicker recovery time. In some cases, they can be done as outpatient procedures. With gradual weight loss, you may help lower your risk of serious medical conditions, such as:
- Heart disease and stroke
- High blood pressure
- Joint pain
- Sleep apnea
- Type 2 diabetes
- Other underlying health conditions
Types of endoscopic bariatric surgery
With endoscopic bariatric surgery, a device, along with a camera, is inserted down your throat. Once the device reaches your stomach, your doctor may perform one of the following procedures:
Endoscopic sleeve revision: Traditional gastric sleeve surgery removes about three-quarters of your stomach. Endoscopic sleeve revision leaves behind a "sleeve" or tube. Food will still go through your stomach and into your small intestine in a normal way. Because your stomach is smaller, you will need less food to become full. After several years, patients are able to eat larger portions and may put weight back on. An endoscopic sleeve revision uses a suture kit to tighten the stretched sleeve with stitches, without surgery.
Endoscopic gastric bypass revision: When you have gastric bypass surgery, your doctor reduces the size of your stomach by creating a new, smaller pouch. Over time, that pouch may stretch, allowing you to eat more food without feeling full. An endoscopic gastric bypass revision uses stitches to reduce the stomach back to a smaller size.
Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty: With an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, a suturing device is inserted into your throat and down to your stomach. Sutures are then placed in your stomach to make it smaller. This helps you lose weight by reducing how much food you can eat.

Before and after weight-loss surgery
You will have a network of support before, during and after your weight-loss surgery. During your journey, you'll have follow-up visits with your doctor and care team at a location near you. At Ascension Sacred Heart, we also offer bariatric support groups and nutrition counseling. Your success is important to us.
