Bridges to HOPE Program in Southeast Michigan

The Bridges to HOPE program connects adults and their families with education and community resources they need.

If you have trouble meeting your basic needs including clean water, nutrition, healthcare, education, clothing and shelter, we are here to help. Bridges to HOPE (Helping Others Prosper through Empowerment) is a program at Ascension Southeast Michigan. When you join the program, we start by listening to you, to understand the areas of your life you feel need improvement or change. Then, we work with you and your family to connect you to community resources. And, you’ll receive education to help you make informed decisions.

How the Bridges to HOPE program works

As part of the program, you’ll attend two workshops per week for eight weeks. Each session is two hours long. We’ll also provide you meals, transportation (upon request) and a cash stipend for each meeting you attend.

You’ll learn from Philip DeVol’s book, Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-By World: Building Resources for a Better Life. From this book and our workshops, you’ll gain life skills to help you move ahead and thrive.

Peer Support to help you succeed

As part of the program, you will receive individual support from a trained professional. Even more, people chosen to be mentors are caring and compassionate people who care deeply about helping people live fuller lives. Your mentor will work with you over the phone or in person to help you grow personally or professionally, suggest community resources, and encourage you in your journey out of poverty. If you’d like to be a mentor, please call 313-369-5600.

“Recently, I graduated from Bridges to HOPE and the program was very informative and really made me think deeper into planning and setting goals for my future. The importance of language in the book impacted me greatly. It is true it takes time to work on a plan so that you can actually see the big picture. I thank you, Bridges to HOPE. I have truly gained a lot about poverty to get ahead.”
