Radiology and image tests for your child
To help identify and treat your child’s medical condition, imaging may be used by your child’s doctor. For some children, these tests can seem scary. At Ascension-affiliated children’s hospitals, our pediatric radiologists and care teams are experienced in making kids feel comfortable. We start by listening to you and your child. Then, we explain the test before it begins so you both know what to expect.
Types of diagnostic imaging
Advanced diagnostic imaging helps doctors to see inside your child’s body. And it helps them make a diagnosis and develop a care plan. A doctor’s referral is needed for screening and diagnostic imaging tests, including:
- Computed tomography (CT)
- DEXA scan bone density scan
- Diagnostic X-ray
- Fluoroscopy
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Nuclear medicine studies
- Ultrasound
Low-dose radiology testing
Your child’s health and safety is our priority. That’s why we work to deliver personalized testing that's as accurate and safe as possible. We provide tests that adapt to your child’s size and needs. Our care team uses the least amount of radiation possible and tries to avoid multiple scans. Your pediatric specialist may focus on one area or body part to help reduce exposure.
