Hearing tests for children and adults close to home

After your evaluation, your doctor may recommend audiology tests based on you or your child’s symptoms. Hearing tests include:

Auditory brainstem evolved response (ABR) testing (sedated and non-sedated) is available for children and adults of all ages. ABR testing focuses on a specific pattern of brainwaves to detect the softest level of sound you can hear.

Behavioral audiometry is a behavioral test that detects the softest level a child or adult can hear across different frequencies.

Extended high-frequency (EHF) audiometry monitors the hearing of a person who has been exposed to ototoxic medications (medicines that are damaging to ears), such as chemotherapy.

Otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing measures sounds to the level of the hearing organ, the cochlea.

Tympanometry helps determine the condition ofthe middle ear.
