Ascension Seton's Cardiac Rehab Program
Patients with a history of heart disease, heart attack, heart or valve surgery, heart transplant or other conditions can participate in our cardiac rehab program.
To learn about our structured and educational approach to improving your heart health, you may:
- Contact Us at one of our heart care locations or call toll-free 877-860-1141
- Review our Cardiac Rehab FAQs for more information on what to expect during your rehab care.
- Take a look at this video
which explains how a program of cardiac rehab can help prevent heart attack or other heart events.
To participate, you will need a Doctor's Referral Form, which we can help you obtain. Once you have a doctor’s order, you can set up an appointment for an initial evaluation. We will take a Medical Assessment and give you more information about the program. Be sure to bring along a list of current medications, including dosage and frequency, along with a copy of any other healthcare instructions.
Our cardiac rehabilitation program -- which is offered at five different sites in the greater Austin area -- includes guided physical exercise as well as educational classes about your heart health. The equipment used and classes offered may vary by site.
Exercise programs are customized, based on each patient’s medical condition and abilities. The program lasts up to 18 weeks (or 36 visits, whichever occurs first), depending on your insurance benefits and overall progress.
Exercise sessions last up to 60 minutes each and may include working with free weights, Nautilus weight training machine, NuStep, rowers, seated and upright elliptical trainers, stabilization balls, stationary bicycles and treadmills.
Heart health classes may include:
- 1:1 Dietary Consultation
- Cardiac Medications
- Cholesterol and Your Heart
- Exercise and Diabetes
- Exercising Safely at Home
- Heart Disease 101
- Psychosocial Changes with Heart Disease
- Smoking Cessation
- Stress Management
