Ascension St. John Medical Center to be honored with Oklahoma Hospital Association Tobacco Champion of Health Award
Ascension St. John Medical Center is honored to have been awarded the Tobacco Champion of Health accolade by the Oklahoma Hospital Association (OHA). This signifies a significant milestone for our medical center and a testament to our commitment to promoting a healthier community. We are proud to lead the way as the first major health system in Tulsa to introduce a comprehensive clinical tobacco cessation program, featuring electronic referrals to the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline.
“High Performing” hospital for expertise in Neuroscience, Cardiology and Oncology care by U.S. News and World Report
The award recognizes the medical center for providing high-quality care to stroke, congestive heart failure, heart attack and COPD patients, as well as those battling leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and colon cancer. “High Performing” is the highest distinction a hospital can earn from U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions.
Ascension St. John Medical Center Cancer Program Accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons
The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons, has granted Three-Year Accreditation to the cancer program at Ascension St. John Medical Center. To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.
Because it is a CoC-accredited cancer center, Ascension St. John Medical Center takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists. This multidisciplinary partnership results in improved patient care.
Ascension St. John Medical Center receives the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Gold Performance Achievement Award
Ascension St. John Medical Center has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Gold Performance Achievement Award. Ascension St. John is one of only 60 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor. The award recognizes Ascension St. John’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that Ascension St. John has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology
A Breast Imaging Center of Excellence Center recognizes accreditation in mammography, breast ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast MRI. Ascension St. John Medical Center was the first in Northeastern Oklahoma to earn this prestigious distinction.

Ascension St. John Medical Center earns the state’s highest marks for Stroke care from the American Heart Association
Ascension St. John Medical Center has received the American Heart Association’s Get with Guidelines - Stroke GOLD PLUS with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus, Advanced Therapy award. The quality achievement award recognizes the commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability. We are the only hospital in the state to earn the Advanced Therapy distinction.
The medical center also received the Target distinctions in: Stroke, Type 2 Diabetes award. These Honor Roll Awards aim to ensure that patients with these conditions receive the most up-to-date treatment and therapies by meeting specific criteria from the time of arrival to receiving care.
Ascension St. John Medical Center Verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons
This achievement recognizes the trauma program’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. Ours is the only American College of Surgeons-verified trauma program in northeastern Oklahoma.
Ascension St. John Medical Center Receives CORE Certification from the International Geriatric Fracture Society
Ascension St. John Medical Center is the only facility in Oklahoma to be recognized with CORE certification by the International Geriatric Fracture Society. The certification recognizes organizations who decrease variability of care, increase quality and improve patient outcomes in geriatric fracture care.
Ascension St. John Medical Center Recognized as a Spotlight Hospital by the Oklahoma Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative
Ascension St. John Medical Center has been named a Spotlight Hospital by the Oklahoma Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative. The award recognizes hospitals that are creating a culture of excellence in perinatal care for Oklahoma mothers and newborns based on participation in and outcomes of quality improvement initiatives available to all birthing hospitals.

Ascension St. John Medical has been named Oklahoma’s first certified Transcatheter Valve Center by the American College of Cardiology. The certification recognizes our team’s ongoing commitment to reduce the prevalence of heart disease among our patients.
Ascension St. John’s Center for Women's Health is recognized by Cribs for Kids Safe Sleep Certification
Cribs for Kids’ National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification program recognizes hospitals and hospital systems for their commitment to infant safe sleep to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID), Accidental Suffocation and Strangulation in Bed (ASSB), SIDS and unsafe sleep injuries.

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade Award
For Spring 2024, Ascension St. John Jane Phillips was one of just eight hospitals in the state to earn an A rating from Leapfrog. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries.
Four-Star Quality Rating from CMS
Ascension St. John Jane Phillips has been awarded a four-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The hospital rating summarizes a variety of measures across seven areas of quality – including safety of care, effectiveness of care, and patient experience – into a single star rating for each hospital.

Ascension St. John Jane Phillips Receives Mission: Lifeline Awards
Ascension St. John Jane Phillips was recognized as a recipient of Mission: Lifeline® Gold-Plus Receiving Award and the Mission: Lifeline® NSTEMI Gold Quality Achievement Award by the American Heart Association. Jane Phillips earned the awards by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for quick and appropriate treatment through emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries in heart attack patients coming into the hospital, directly or by transfer from another facility.

The American Diabetes Associates requires meeting 10 comprehensive performance standards to maintain recognition: internal structure, external input, access, indicators, instructional staff, curriculum, individualization, ongoing support, patient progress and quality improvement.
