We are a multi-disciplinary team focused on identifying, monitoring, diagnosing and treating lung nodules when they are identified. We collaborate across the fields of pulmonology, thoracic surgery, interventional radiology and oncology. While many nodules are benign, we try to optimize the surveillance of patients with nodules deemed to be lower risk.
Determine if you’re high-risk
An early detection of lung nodules or lung cancer can be a crucial factor in a patient’s treatment and recovery process. At the Borgess Lung Nodule Clinic, our doctors administer Low Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) tests. During this test, an x-ray machine uses small doses of radiation, which helps create accurate images of the patient. From there, our doctors can evaluate and create a treatment plan to fit your individual needs. Consider getting an LDCT if:
• Age 55-80 years
• Have smoked 30+ years or more
• Currently smoking or have quit smoking within the last 15 years
• Age 50 or older with 20+ year history and one additional risk factor (family history of lung cancer, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis or exposure to certain carcinogenic substances)
Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy (ENB)
The Lung Nodule Clinic now offers an advanced diagnostic procedure called Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy (ENB). ENB is a minimally invasive approach to aid in the diagnosis and management of lung disease. Our surgeons use ENB to access patients airways – even difficult-to-reach areas of the lung. This acts as a powerful tool for lung disease diagnosis and an earlier, more personalized treatment.
A ENB is usually an outpatient procedure with little risk or pain for the patient. Our multidisciplinary team of Pulmonologists, Thoracic Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Oncologists and Imaging doctors are committed to providing a safe environment and a personalized treatment plan that fits the individual needs of our patients.
