The Spiritual Care department at Ascension Genesys Hospital is available to assist you and your loved ones with the needs that arise during your hospital stay. Services provided include support and presence at times of crisis such as when families are confronted with serious or unexpected illness. They are also available for a death in the family. Staff chaplains, specially trained as an integral part of our healing team, provide spiritual and emotional care. Volunteers also assist with the provision of services including Eucharistic Ministry. Visiting Religious leaders of all faiths are welcome to visit members of their congregations.
Holy Communion: The Spiritual Care department works with lay ministers of the Eucharist from area Catholic parishes who assist with the distribution of Holy Communion. Each morning, an assigned Eucharistic Minister will visit Catholic patients to offer communion. Should you wish Holy Communion during your hospital stay, you can make your request known to the nursing staff who will inform Spiritual Care or you may call the department directly at 810-606-5290 or dial 65290 from your room phone, and leave a message with your name and room number.
Sacramental Ministry: A priest is on site Monday through Friday to make visits to Catholic patients to offer the Sacraments of Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation. These are often sources of strength in the healing process. These Sacraments can also be made available upon request on days other than when the priest is on site.
Chapel: The Ascension Genesys chapel is located in the atrium, next to the maple elevators. The chapel is open at all times for patients, families, visitors and hospital employees.
How do I contact a Chaplain? Chaplains are available Monday thru Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and weekends/holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you wish to contact a member of the Spiritual Care staff, please call 810-606-5290 (inside Ascension Genesys Hospital, just dial 65290)
After the normal hours, please express your need to the nursing staff, who can arrange for a Spiritual Care visit to meet your needs.
Mass Schedule: Monday and Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel.
