Multidisciplinary GI Clinic and Second Opinion Clinic

The JFW Gastric Cancer Program has a multidisciplinary clinic and a 2nd opinion clinic for patients diagnosed with upper gastrointestinal malignancy.

How our program is different

The Multidisciplinary GI Clinic

The intent of the GI clinic is to ensure that patients are seen and examined by the entire cancer team in one day with the goal of creating a plan of care best suited for each individual patient.

Patient’s that participate in the multidisciplinary clinic will meet:

Also, on the day of the multidisciplinary clinic, patients will have their case reviewed at our GI Tumor Board. At the GI Tumor Board, a group of oncology professionals meet to review and discuss patient cases to assist with the creation of a plan.

When patients are scheduled for any appointment at the Jerome F. Williams Gastric Cancer Clinic, you will follow an itinerary that we have tailored to you. During the day, you will not only meet the team, but will have the opportunity to see the nursing unit where you may possibly be admitted to during any hospital admissions.

Our JFW Multidisciplinary GI Clinic is an all-day appointment. Please be ready to spend the day with us and learn about our great facilities as we learn about you, and devise a plan that provides you with the best possible outcomes. Since it is an all-day appointment, lunch is on us. Patients and their family members will be escorted to our Moross Market Café for complimentary lunch.

The JFW 2nd Opinion GI Clinic

The intent of the 2nd Opinion GI clinic is similar to the Multidisciplinary GI Clinic. In this 2nd Opinion Clinic you will meet the same team of physicians and support staff. However, this clinic is meant for other patients that are searching for a second opinion after having already started cancer treatment at another institution.

The intent of the 2nd opinion clinic is to offer patients an unbiased opinion about your current medical diagnosis and treatment. In the medical academic world, a second opinion for patients will sometimes allow them to feel more confident about the treatment options that have been presented to them or that have already begun. Also, a fresh set of eyes on a complex case may allow for alternate treatment options that were not yet considered. Our physicians here at the JFW 2nd Opinion GI Clinic are ready to review any case, examine the patient, and give recommendations for treatment in cases that are complex or that do not follow typical treatment protocols. A second opinion never hurts, and we ALWAYS encourage our patients to get a second opinion.
