Our services

Ascension St. John Hospital Health Center Center at 26 Mile - Mammography provides breast cancer detection using advanced digital mammography options personalized to your needs. You have on-site radiology support and multiple breast screening options, including:

  • 3D mammography (tomosynthesis): 3D imaging technology that increases the detection of breast cancer and reduces the recall rate for screenings. A tomosynthesis (tomo) technology screening helps improve the chances of finding cancers in dense breast tissue.
  • 2D digital mammography: Two-dimensional (2D) digital mammography is a low-dose X-ray that produces high-quality breast images. The digital image can be enhanced and magnified for optimal evaluation.
  • Breast ultrasound: Breast ultrasound is a non-invasive test that uses sound waves to make images of the breast. It helps your doctor diagnose benign and malignant disease by assessing a specific area within the breast. Ultrasound images are also called sonograms.
  • Automated whole-breast ultrasound (ABUS): Along with annual mammography, ABUS helps detect breast cancer for patients with dense breast tissue and/or increased risk of developing breast cancer. ABUS is a non-invasive test that uses sound waves to create images of the breast.
  • Bone density (DEXA): DEXA is used to find and treat osteoporosis and help prevent fractures that can lead to disability.

When should you consider a mammogram?

As a member of the Ascension Michigan Breast Care Program, we follow the guidelines of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and the American Cancer Society (ACS).

  • Annual screening mammography: Starting at age 40, and continuing yearly as long as you are in good health
  • Clinical breast exam: Starting at age 20, every 3 years, and annually starting at age 40
  • Breast self-exam: Monthly, starting at age 20

Know your family health history - Finding breast cancer early can help save lives. If your mother, sister, or daughter has been diagnosed with breast cancer, find a doctor. Ask if you should have a breast screening test before age 40.
