• Maternal age 35 years or greater at the time of delivery
• Previous pregnancy loss
• Increased risk of premature delivery
• Hypertensive, cardiac or autoimmune disease
• Diabetes
• Exposure to environmental toxins or potential harmful medications
• History of genetic disease such as sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, Tay Sachs, etc.
