Frequently asked questions

Care teams at Ascension Medical Group Illinois Weight Loss Solutions Elgin answer your frequently asked questions about medical weight loss.

Choosing medical weight loss is an important decision. You should know what to expect and how to prepare for your weight-loss journey. Before your first consultation with an obesity medicine specialist, please review our frequently asked questions. We provide you with answers about the program including dietary guidelines, insurance coverage and more.

Is medical weight loss safe?

Our program is supervised by doctors who specialize in medical weight loss. With each pound you lose, you are reducing your risk of weight-related health conditions.

How much weight can I expect to lose during the program?

You can expect to lose between one and four pounds per week during the active weight-loss phase. Results may vary based on your treatment plan.

Is medical weight loss covered by insurance?

Our weight-loss specialists are in-network with most insurance plans, including Medicare. All medical visits, including your initial visit, will be billed to your insurance. The remaining program services (classes, dietitian visits, weight checks, program events) are built into a self-pay membership cost or covered by Medicare if your BMI is greater than 30.
