Ascension Sacred Heart Bay provides the best in diagnostic testing by combining the sophisticated power of technology with the expertise of highly skilled physicians and technologists.
Diagnostic tests have different requirements. Some tests require an appointment, and some require fasting. A physician’s order is required for all diagnostic imaging. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 850-747-6987.

Our outpatient tests at this location include:

CT scan
Nuclear medicine
Interventional radiology

CT scan
A Computer Tomography (CT) scan is used to evaluate injuries or diseases, allowing doctors to obtain wafer-thin cross-sections of the inside of the body. These highly detailed images assist the doctor in making a quick and accurate diagnosis. Appointments are required.

Electrocardiogram (EKG) is a brief and painless procedure that measures the heart’s electrical activity to evaluate cardiovascular disease. Appointments are required.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) involves the use of a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and high-powered computers to produce incredibly clear anatomical images. MRI is helpful in evaluating disease and injury to the body, particularly in the neurological and orthopedic areas. Highly detailed images of the internal body structures can be viewed by the doctor without the need for surgery. Our MRI department has been accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Appointments are required. Please notify your doctor before this procedure if you are pregnant. This location offers a closed MRI machine.

Nuclear medicine
Nuclear medicine uses radioactive isotopes to visualize and image specific body systems and organs. This procedure requires a painless injection of a short-lived radioactive material with no after-effect. This test is used to evaluate the cardiovascular system, bones, lungs and abdominal organs. All technologists in this department are certified nuclear medicine technologists.
Appointments are required.

An ultrasound is used to evaluate body systems including the organs of the abdomen, pelvis and vascular system. Completely non-invasive and painless, an ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves as its imaging source. Our ultrasound technologists are specially trained and certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
Appointments are required.

X-ray imaging is offered on a walk-in basis without an appointment and takes only a few minutes to complete. A physician’s order is required.

Interventional Radiology
Interventional radiology is a medical imaging specialty in which doctors use X-ray and ultrasound guidance to perform minimally invasive procedures. Catheters, guide wires and other small instruments are inserted in blood vessels or other pathways to diagnose and treat diseases.

Our interventional radiology team includes experienced radiologic technologists and registered nurses who provide around-the-clock care for our patients and support for our physicians.
Interventional radiology procedures typically are less invasive and costly than traditional surgery, with faster recovery times. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis without general anesthesia, which allows the patient to go home the same day.

Interventional radiology procedures performed at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay include:

CT angiographic procedures
Angiography with or without angioplasty and/or stenting
