Stop the Bleed Training Course - Detroit, MI

Stop the Bleed encourages bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

Ascension St. John Hospital and Henry Ford Hospital have partnered to bring Stop the Bleed Training to the Detroit Community. Class will be held at Henry Ford Hospital and will be taught by Ascension St. John and Henry Ford Hospital instructors.

Who Should Attend:

This class is for anyone interested in learning about life threatening bleeding control techniques. No healthcare, law enforcement, military, or first responder experience needed. The program is designed for everyday people, like you and me! Civilians need basic training in Bleeding Control principles so they are able to provide immediate, frontline aid until first responders are able to take over care of an injured person. Due to many situations, there may be a delay between the time of injury and the time a first responder is on the scene. Without civilian intervention in these circumstances, preventable deaths will occur. This is a lifelong skill that all individuals should learn but hopefully never use.

What to Expect:

  • Conducted by certified Stop the Bleed Instructors using the course standards, including standards for class content, instructor/student ratio, acceptable learning environments, and approved equipment
  • Uses both official branded PDF presentation with case scenarios, videos, and live demos
  • Each participant will have time to practice holding compression, packing a wound, and tourniquet use while receiving feedback from the instructors
  • Upon completion of the instructions, learners are presented with an official certificate of completion

Topics Covered:

How to identify “life threatening” bleeding, Bleeding control techniques based on location of injury, How to properly hold pressure and pack a bleeding wound, Trauma kits and care without a kit, and Tourniquet use.
