A birth plan with options
Our OB-GYN doctors and pediatricians are here to support you and your baby. No pregnancy is the same. With 24/7 OB and anesthesia coverage, our hospital maternity care team is responsive to your labor and delivery needs. At Ascension Sacred Heart, we provide family-centered birth suites with home-like comforts. Working together, we help deliver a memorable birth experience.
Expecting moms have a variety of options available to help them with the childbirth experience. Natural techniques available at the Family Birth Place include walking during labor, hydrotherapy, birth balls and breathing techniques. Epidural and medication options are also available. Patients are welcome to bring aromatherapy, massage creams and music that will help them relax and enhance the overall experience.
Our staff practices mother-baby, or couplet, care, which means each family unit gets the same nurse for both mom and baby. We encourage mothers to keep their babies in their rooms at all times to form a stronger bond and relationship. Connecting this way helps you see all of the baby's "firsts" and understand your new baby's personality and needs. Teachable moments include everything from the baby's first bath to the baby's first check-up and what to do when the baby cries.
The Family Birth Place also offers Walton County's only neonatal intensive care unit to care for premature and critically ill babies. This 10-bed, Level II unit cares for infants born prematurely, up to two months early, who weigh more than 3.3 pounds. The comprehensive group of caregivers includes board-certified neonatologists (pediatricians with specialized training in the care of critically-ill infants), neonatal nurses, immunologists and nutritionists along with a team of specialized nurses, support staff and volunteers.
