The nurse residency program (NRP) is designed for nurses with less than 12 months of experience. The NRP helps guide a successful transition into a professional nursing career by offering educational and personal development opportunities.
The program provides interactive classes, live seminars connecting residents with local and system-wide leaders in nursing, hands-on skill sessions, and simulation training.
In alignment with our Ascension Mission, Vision, and Values, we aim to provide a supportive environment where nurses have shared experiences by receiving the same training and resources to flourish in their careers.
Eligibility
- Less than 1 year of full-time RN experience
- Graduate from an accredited nursing school with an ADN or higher degree
- Florida RN nursing license

Program overview
- 12 month program
- Start orientation in the department you get hired into
- All RNs meeting the eligibility criteria are included
- Orientation length varies by specialty and resident performance
- May include observational experiences associated with the assigned unit
- One week of didactic classes that include lectures, guest speakers, hands-on skill sessions, and simulation training
- Self-paced monthly seminars for continued professional development (up to 9 months)
- Teaching strategies include lecture, case studies, demonstration, simulation, role-playing, and journaling.
- Collaborates with other disciplines to provide person-centered care grounded in Ascension's mission, vision, and values
- Use clinical reasoning and judgment in decision-making to achieve optimal quality outcomes
- Demonstrates communication and leadership skills needed to effectively and safely deliver care as a part of an interdisciplinary team
- Embody a spirit of inquiry in practice to ensure quality individualized care
- Reflect dedication to profession and organization through participation and engagement in unit, organizational, and/or system-level initiatives
- Stay connected to purposeful meaning and joy in their work and have established the foundation of wellbeing in body, mind, and spirit.
