Ascension sites of care in Illinois are proud of the service the volunteer community provides for our healthcare ministry. Volunteers are vital in helping to create a warm and friendly environment, and are  present in many departments throughout our hospital.

Ascension Illinois volunteers donate their time and energy in an effort to make a patient's stay as comfortable as possible. Our volunteers perform duties that lighten the load of our staff, services for patient comfort. Thank you for your interest in volunteering. There isn’t a gift more generous, more compassionate or more appreciated than giving your time.


Volunteer requirements

With their contagious smiles, comforting presence and huge hearts – our volunteers make each Ascension sites of care in Illinois feel like home. Due to the nature of our work there are a number of requirements that all Ascension volunteers must meet. First you will need to complete a volunteer application and undergo a drug screen along with a two-step TB test. Next you will participate in a four-hour orientation and training session. Volunteers are also required to undergo annual TB testing and complete ongoing education initiatives. Uniforms are required any time you are volunteering. These requirements ensure that volunteers are well-prepared and dedicated to supporting the mission of Ascension sites of care in Illinois. Please review the "Immunization" requirements and "General" requirements for the location you are applying for, before submitting your application. If you are interested in volunteering, please submit a volunteer application to start the process. 

Highschool students (aged 18 or older) can earn service hours for volunteering or graduation credit. This is strictly a volunteer program and can not be applied for internship or practicum requirements.

Volunteer benefits

Active volunteers at Ascension sites of care in Illinois enjoy a wide range of wonderful benefits. These include complimentary parking in designated areas, free coffee or fountain soda from the cafeteria while on duty, as well as a meal allowance that can be redeemed at the cafeteria. Additionally, volunteers receive annual flu shots and have access to free blood pressure checks. We also offer a pharmacy discount with a doctor's prescription and have the option to purchase uniforms at minimal cost. Volunteers are invited to attend special luncheons and educational opportunities. These benefits enhance the volunteering experience, recognizing and appreciating the valuable contributions of volunteers at Ascension sites of care in Illinois.
