Gynecologists care for the unique health needs of women throughout their lifetime. Every appointment with your gynecologist starts with a conversation about any new symptoms and health concerns. At Ascension sites of care, our doctors listen to understand you and are ready to answer your questions—big and small–from well woman exams to advanced gynecologic care.
Screenings and preventive health care
During your yearly exam, your gynecologist talks to you about your health history, risk factors and preventive health care. This includes a pelvic exam and screenings for early detection of potential cancers for early intervention. Gynecologists also provide referrals for mammograms or other screenings like a colonoscopy. Your annual wellness exam may include:
- Breast exam
- Lab tests
- Pap smear
If you are diagnosed and need more advanced care, your gynecologist can deliver a care plan and help connect you with another specialist such as urologist or endocrinologist.
Experienced care for common women’s health conditions
Your gynecologist is here for all your women’s health needs. You can ask your gynecologist anything. Why am I going to the bathroom so often? Is it normal to have leaking? Why am I having pelvic pain? When you notice changes – a new lump or bump, pain, discharge – talk with your doctor.
When you choose a doctor at Ascension sites of care, you’ll have care options for almost any women’s health need. From the latest diagnostic and treatment options to advanced surgical care, you’ll have the right team to deliver comprehensive care. Gynecologic surgery
If surgery is something you are considering or is recommended as part of your care plan, your doctor will talk through options and risks. Some gynecologists perform gynecologic surgery. Gynecologic surgery is a treatment option for many conditions affecting the uterus, ovaries, cervix, fallopian tubes and vagina. Whenever possible, your surgeon will recommend minimally-invasive techniques and robotic surgery. Compared with traditional surgery, minimally invasive techniques may mean smaller incisions, less pain, a lower risk of complications and help shorten your recovery. If your surgery may impact your ability to have children, such as if hysterectomy is recommended as part of your care, you and your doctor will discuss all of your options and what they mean for you. Together we'll develop a care plan that is right for you.
Get a second opinion from a gynecologist
Get the confidence and peace of mind that your doctor and care plan are right for you. It's easy to get a second opinion at Ascension sites of care. We can review your medical records and healthcare history to answer your questions and discuss options. Talk with one of our doctors about a personalized care plan.
When you are facing a new diagnosis or health concern, there’s a lot to think about. Our gynecologists can provide a second opinion, based on our experience and as part of an integrated national network of care.
Before your appointment, check with your insurance company to find out if a second opinion is covered. We can request your medical records from your doctor on your behalf, so that they can be shared with your care team before your arrival.
