One-year practicum positions in adult and pediatric neuropsychological assessment begin in July and last through June. The practicum is offered in affiliation with the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Division of Neuropsychology.

Curriculum

The main focus of the neuropsychology practicum is to provide doctoral students in clinical psychology experience with neuropsychological assessment with a variety of clinical presentations and in a medical-care setting. The student will learn how to make appropriate treatment recommendations, administer a wide variety of neuropsychological tests, obtain clinical experience with various medical conditions, learn report-writing skills and work in a multidisciplinary environment. Additional learning opportunities include:

  • Weekly didactic seminars at UIC in the areas of clinical neuropsychology, neuroanatomy and behavioral neurosciences

Adult neuropsychology practicum

This practicum provides inpatient and outpatient neuropsychological evaluations for adults with varied neurological, medical and psychiatric conditions. The program provides consultation for specialty clinics, including:

  • Epilepsy
  • Memory disorders
  • Movement disorders
  • Neurosurgery
  • Rehabilitation
  • Stroke

Participating students will be trained in the standardized administration of a variety of neuropsychological instruments and will participate in test selection, clinical interview, test administration, interpretation of results and report writing under the direction and supervision of the clinical neuropsychologists.

Pediatric neuropsychology practicum

This practicum specializes in outpatient assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for children between the ages of 18 months and 18 years who present with a broad base of neurological, psychiatric, medical and learning disorders. You will also interface with the family, school and other providers to maximize the educational and treatment success for the child.

With the pediatric neuropsychology practicum, students will be trained in the standardized administration of a variety of neuropsychological instruments and will participate in test selection, clinical interview, test administration, interpretation of results and report writing under the direction and supervision of the clinical neuropsychologists. In addition, the students will have opportunities to partake in school observations and school meetings.
