About Mark Harris Hutchens, MD
Mark Hutchens, MD was raised in El Paso, TX. He attended Texas A&M University, earning a B. S. degree in biology, Summa Cum Laude. His medical degree was from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. His residency in family medicine was at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia serving as Chief Resident. He assisted with the care of athletes at Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University. He then worked in the Indian Health Service at the Choctaw Nation Indian Hospital in Talihina, Oklahoma, practicing a full range of family medicine including surgery and obstetrics and served as the team physician for Talihina High School. Completed his primary care sports medicine fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL. He served as The Director of Athletic Medicine for the University of Texas at Austin. He was the primary Team Physician for the athletic department, developing the sports medicine program and a sports medicine clinic. He co-founded Texas Sports & Family Medicine in 2003, expanding his scope of care to include athletes of all ages as well as general family practice. He continues to serve as team physician for local athletic teams.
