Presentation Purpose: The purpose of this symposium is to enhance the attendees’ knowledge about the pediatric neurological conditions and to provide specific techniques that will improve management of these children.
Upon completion of this activity participants should be able to:
Recognize patients with macrocephaly who are unlikely to require neurosurgical evaluation
Recognize the patient with an abnormally shaped head that is not positional plagiocephaly and warrant a visit with the craniofacial team
Discuss the incidence, genetics and clinical features and diagnosis of neurofibromatosis
Discuss new approaches in the management of neurofibromatosis
Review current concepts on pathogenesis of migraine
Recognize headache red flags that suggest neuroimaging and neurology consultation
Discuss acute treatment and prophylaxis of migraine, including medication (contraindications, potential adverse effect)
Describe simple, generalized and focal seizure types and recognize urgent epilepsy syndromes
Discuss basic epilepsy management that can be done by primary care practitioners
Recognize various unique early signs of several neurological conditions
Recognize clinical manifestations that predict concussion recovery.
