When Connor was born 13 years ago, he spent the first month of his life in the NICU at Ascension Saint Joseph in Joliet, Illinois, now he is back and ready to serve.

When Connor was born 13 years ago, he spent the first month of his life in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Ascension Saint Joseph - Joliet in Illinois. Now in the 7th grade, Connor decided to give back to the place that played such a crucial role in his early days. The idea sparked when he reached out to Karen, the NICU nurse manager at Ascension Saint Joseph - Joliet, to discuss a fundraising drive to benefit the NICU.

Connor came up with the idea to collect two essential items: cooling packs for transporting breast milk and personal care packs for the mothers in the NICU. The care packs included items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and soap—little comforts that can make a big difference during a stressful time.

With determination and a big heart, Connor took on the challenge of organizing the fundraiser. He spent a month collecting donations, spreading the word by distributing flyers throughout his neighborhood and posting on social media. His efforts paid off, and he was able to collect between 80 to 100 items for the NICU at Ascension Saint Joseph - Joliet.

Finally, the day came for Connor to deliver the donations in person. It was a full-circle moment for him, and he was eager to give back and bring some happiness to the mothers currently facing the challenges of having a baby in the NICU.

During his visit, Connor was given a tour of the NICU by the nursing staff. He even took a moment to chat with the nurses, trying to see if any of them were there during his time in the NICU. The staff was touched by his kindness, and the experience was both memorable and meaningful for everyone involved.

This project wasn't just about collecting items; it was deeply personal for Connor. He expressed his willingness to continue doing similar service projects in the future, knowing firsthand the impact it can have. The response from the community was positive. Connor's willingness to give back to a place where he receives care shows the impact Ascension Saint Joseph care teams have on their patients and their families.
