“I can’t do it anymore,” she recalled telling her midwife Amber Price, certified nurse midwife at Ascension Medical Group Sacred Heart, after all the maneuvers to turn the baby were unsuccessful. “She told me, ‘You’ve got this.’ Amber’s encouragement gave me the confidence I needed to trust my body and keep going.”
Priscilla had a minimalist birth plan in mind: she wanted to give birth as naturally as possible, with minimal interventions and medication. When Priscilla experienced painful back contractions, she utilized many of the room amenities, such as tub, heated toilet seat and birthing balls, to ease her pain. After spending so much time in the birthing suite, Priscilla said the environment “felt like home.”
She was amazed at Amber’s depth of knowledge of labor positions and maneuvers that helped to facilitate the delivery of her baby boy, Rex.
“As a first time mom, there were times when I doubted myself,” Priscilla said. “Amber was there every step of the way, guiding me. With her help, I was able to have the birth experience I had in mind.”
