Get the screening that is right for you

Care teams at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital - Mammography know that finding breast cancer early can help save lives. If your mother, sister, aunt or grandmother has been diagnosed with breast cancer, ask your doctor if you should have a breast screening test before the age of 40. For your convenience, you can schedule your mammogram online. Before you make your appointment, please make sure you have a mammogram referral from your doctor and bring it to your appointment.

At Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital - Mammography, we are proud to be accredited by the American College of Radiology. We provide comprehensive breast imaging, including:

  • 3D Mammography (Tomosynthesis): When used as a screening tool, this 3-D imaging technology increases the overall detection of breast cancer and reduces the recall rate for screenings – which is a very important issue. Tomosynthesis (Tomo) is one of the most powerful diagnostic tools for the early detection of breast cancer. Tomo technology screening improves the chances of finding cancers in dense breast tissue.
  • 2D Digital Mammography: Two-dimensional (2D) digital mammography is a safe, low-dose x-ray exam which produces high quality breast images. The digital image can be enhanced and magnified for optimal evaluation.
  • Breast ultrasound: Uses sound waves to make images of the breast. Breast ultrasound is a non-invasive test. It is used separately or in conjunction with mammography in diagnosing benign and malignant diseases.
  • SmartCurve paddle: A curved compression surface that offers a more comfortable mammography patient experience without compromising image quality.

We follow the guidelines set forth by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the American Cancer Society (ACS), which include:

  • Annual Screening Mammography: Starting at age 40, annually as long as a woman is in good health.
  • Clinical Breast Exam: Starting at age 20, every 3 years. Starting at age 40, annually.
  • Breast Self-Exam: Starting at age 20, monthly. If you are not sure how, visit www.cancer.org or you can request a guide about "How to Prevent and Detect Cancer."

Before scheduling a mammography appointment, please have a physician referral and know your family health history.
