Nurse grateful for husband’s comfort from Orthopedics care team

As a registered nurse, Mary "Kris" Davolt knows the importance of patient and family feedback.

So when her husband, Larry, received outstanding care at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, it prompted her to write a thank-you note to his orthopedic surgeon, Justin Ogden, MD, and his team.

Dr. Ogden operated on Larry’s left knee to address a torn meniscus. This was causing him significant pain and limiting his normal activities.

“He had previously had surgery on his other knee by a different surgeon and experienced a lot of post- op pain. We expected the same for this surgery, but he had very little pain post-op and felt almost immediate relief from the presenting problem,” says Kris, who works in Employee Health. “I feel that this lack of pain and resolution of the problem speaks to the skill of the surgeon to fix it with minimal trauma to surrounding tissue.”

Larry, who is grateful for the relief, says “It’s wonderful to be pain free and to get back to normal daily activities.”

“They were also great to work with in navigating insurance, receiving prior authorizations and ensuring we were set for the surgery,” Kris says. “They were gracious and helpful when we checked with them about the progress of things.”

In the weeks leading up to the surgery, Dr. Ogden provided ample education and ensured that they both were comfortable with the procedure and recommended follow-up care.

“Dr. Ogden was also great at explaining things at office appointments,” says Kris. “Five stars for Dr. Ogden. Pittsburg is blessed to have him on board!”
