Visitor Information

Ascension welcomes family and friends of our patients. We’ve provided the information below to help make your visit convenient and comfortable.

Ascension St. Mary's Hospital encourages and facilitates visitation in a manner that promotes healing, balances the needs of all patients and visitors and creates a safe and secure environment. Ascension St. Mary's values the family/significant others as important members of the health care team. When a loved one is hospitalized, we understand the need to stay close by for communication about the patients' condition and reassurance about progress. We will do our best to support the patients and family during this stressful time.

Recommended visiting hours are 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. except in Critical Care where visitation guidelines will be shared with you upon admission. Arrangements in other areas may be considered based upon patient and family needs. Please discuss this with the nurse. If a visitor is to remain or arrive after 8:30 p.m., a Visitor Pass must be obtained from Security which is located in the Emergency Department after 8:30 p.m.

The Emergency Department is the only after hour access to the hospital.

It is recommended that a maximum of two visitors including a spouse/significant other visit at one time so the patient can rest better and delivery of care will not be affected.

Ascension St. Mary's understands that injury and illness impacts all members of a patient's family including children. Children (under the age of 16) are allowed to visit although they must be under adult supervision at all times. Children visiting in critical care units may need to follow some additional guidelines. Please check with the nurse.

Quiet Time hours observed to promote a healing environment

Ascension St. Mary's Hospital, Ascension Standish Hospital, and Ascension St. Joseph Hospital has designated Quiet Time hours to help create a healing environment for our patients. These times are from 2 pm – 4 pm and 11 pm – 4 am. Quiet Time hours are crucial for patient satisfaction as well as for healing purposes. Studies show that noise can be stressful and detrimental in the healing process for patients. Sleep is also an important factor in the recovery process. We ask all patients, visitors and as well as our associates to help us maintain a quiet, healing environment. Some ways that we are supporting Quiet Time hours are:

  • Dimming the lights where appropriate
  • Keeping overhead paging to a minimum
  • Phone conversations should be in a designated area away from all patient rooms
  • Patients should lower the volume when listening to music or watching TV
