Diagnosis and specialized care for children with genetic heart conditions
The Cardiovascular Genetics Program is a specialty program within the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. Our team provides diagnosis, evaluation, and management recommendations for patients with heritable cardiovascular conditions. These conditions may be diagnosed before birth, during childhood, and through adulthood.
Our team focuses on early diagnosis, family screening, and preventive care. We help children and their family members understand their diagnoses and treatment options. Our goal is to empower families through care and ongoing support. We combine clinical excellence with compassionate counseling to guide families through inherited cardiovascular disease.

Your child’s experienced care team includes pediatric heart specialists and cardiac genetic counselors. We work together to diagnose and understand your child’s specific genetic condition, providing the proper treatment and ongoing cardiovascular care.

What to expect
Your child’s care team starts by listening. Together, we review bloodwork, imaging, and obtain a detailed family history. We emphasize family-based care. If a genetic disorder is diagnosed, your child’s multidisciplinary care team works together to determine how the heart and other body systems are impacted. Your child and family receive counseling support at every step. By combining genetics and pediatric cardiology, your child’s team of cardiac specialists has the correct information to create a personalized care plan.
