Breast Health Advocate and Mammography
Early detection is the strongest weapon in fighting breast cancer. The disease strikes one in eight women. If you are 40 years or older, ask your doctor about whether you have risk factors and if a mammogram should be part of your routine health exam. Some women, even those younger than 40, may have a higher risk due to a strong family history of breast cancer.
If you need additional testing, a biopsy and a consultation with a breast surgeon, talk to our Breast Health Advocate at 904-308-5490. She provides support and comfort during a biopsy procedure and holds your hand, listens to your fears, and helps you understand the next steps
Our Breast Health Advocate Program, based at the Josephine H. Bryan Breast Health Center, guides women through St. Vincent's many treatment options. Our advocates provide compassionate assistance at every step of the journey. Our program is available to all women in our community, regardless of ethnicity or socio-economic status. This advocate also offers individual guidance with issues relating to finance, transportation, physician referrals, support, education, and cancer survivorship services.
