Emergency care personalized for pregnant women

When a pregnancy emergency arises, Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital - St. Joseph Campus is here to provide the care you need, when you need it most.

Emergency Care for Expectant Mothers

Ascension St. Joseph, located in Milwaukee, WI, provides personalized emergency care when you need it most. As the first hospital in Milwaukee to offer a 24-hour OB Emergency Department (OBED), our board-certified OB/GYN hospitalists are dedicated to providing compassionate care for pregnancy-related emergencies.

Pregnancy emergencies can happen at any hour. Our Ascension OBED care team seeks to improve patient care for moms-to-be and reduce wait times by offering treatment for signs or symptoms of pregnancy-related emergencies. Conditions treated at the OBED commonly include:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Complications associated with high-risk pregnancy
  • Decreased fetal movement
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Preterm labor
  • Ruptured membranes

The OB hospitalists at Ascension St. Joseph specialize solely in caring for patients who are hospitalized, rather than those in a clinical or outpatient setting, and have additional training, such as advanced fetal assessment and monitoring. In addition to delivering babies, OB hospitalists assist with any issues and emergencies that may arise and provide several services including:

  • Care in times of emergency prior to the arrival of a patient’s physician
  • Assistance in the care of high-risk pregnancy patients
  • Deliver babies for patients who may not have an obstetrician

Our OBED does not replace your primary obstetrician, midwife, or family doctor. Instead, it serves as an extension of your regular doctor, providing around the clock care for when your baby just can’t wait.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, go directly to the ER or call 9-1-1.
