Strengthening your heart and lungs after surgery
Cardiac rehabilitation in North Florida
Understanding your heart and lung health after surgery is important to help prevent a heart attack. Care teams at Ascension St. Vincent’s are committed to providing the right care for your heart. Our outpatient cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program at Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside in Jacksonville, Florida, is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
Manage your recovery with cardiac rehabilitation
Your health is our priority. Our care teams listen to understand you and your health concerns. Then, we work with you to create a cardiac rehabilitation plan that promotes a safe and faster recovery. Our nurses and exercise specialists specialize in strengthening your heart and lungs and helping you manage your symptoms. During cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation, we monitor your heart and discuss medications, nutrition and lifestyle changes to help lower your cholesterol, blood pressure and improve your overall health. We also help you cope with stress by providing support to you and your family.
A doctor's referral is required to participate in the program. Medicare Part B and other private health insurance plans provide a covered benefit for participating in general or intensive cardiac rehabilitation.
Ask your heart doctor if you are a candidate for cardiac rehabilitation. Your care plan is based on your heart condition and recent heart surgery or procedure, such as:
- Bypass surgery
- Congestive heart failure
- Coronary stent or angioplasty
- Heart attack
- Heart transplant or heart pump
- Heart valve replacement or repair
- Treatment for angina
