Opioid dependency treatment program
Ascension Wisconsin opioid dependency care
If you or a loved one is addicted or dependent on opioids, care teams at Ascension Wisconsin are here to help. We start by listening to you, to better understand you and your health. Then, we work together to create a care plan that’s right for you. Your care plan may include therapy, counseling and medications. Our Opioid Dependency Treatment Programs are certified to administer SuboxoneⓇ (buprenorphine). This is a drug that can help those who are dependent on opioid drugs by relieving their withdrawal symptoms. We also have the expertise to manage medication transfers from other treatment centers (including those in other states) and to treat related behavioral and mental health conditions.
Emergency care for drug overdose
If you or a loved one is experiencing a potential drug overdose, call 911 and go to the nearest emergency room. Symptoms of an overdose may include:
- Slow breathing rate
- Blue lips and fingernails
- Cold, damp skin
- Vomiting or gurgling noise
In emergency overdose situations, our ERs can administer a drug called naloxone (NarcanⓇ). This drug can help prevent further complications from an overdose when given in time. . Our emergency staff and doctors can refer patients to our Opioid Dependency Treatment Program for follow-up care and treatment.
Self-medicating can lead to dependency
Prescription painkillers, referred to as opioids (or opiates), include:
- Hydrocodone (VicodinⓇ)
- Oxycodone (OxyContinⓇ)
- Other illegal substances such as heroin
Dangerous side effects can occur when these prescriptions are misused. Opioids combined with alcohol, anxiety medication, sleep aids or seizure medication can cause severe side effects, including death.
SuboxoneⓇ (buprenorphine) treatment is a once-a-day dose and gradually eliminates withdrawal symptoms and cravings. SuboxoneⓇ does not cause extreme highs and lows like other medications. Our goal is to help promote long-term recovery and reduce your risk for relapse.
Our care team is experienced in treating substance abuse of all types. We help patients identify stressors that can trigger an overdose and relapse. This program is a step toward a healthier lifestyle. Week by week, we support you staying sober while reducing your side effects and cravings.
Education, counseling, and supportive care are all important phases in our program:
- Begin SuboxoneⓇ treatment with detox symptom management
- Intensive outpatient therapy to manage triggers and cravings
- Group and individual sessions with education and a focus on rebuilding personal relationships
- Follow-up care while tapering off Suboxone
Our continuing care program will monitor you or your loved one closely for relapse and other concerns that may prevent recovery. Our goal is for better overall health and well-being.
