How does On-Demand virtual care connect to my primary care doctor?
A: Virtual providers can access and document your visit directly in your Ascension medical record, keeping your care team informed and supporting your continuity of care. After your visit, your primary care physician (PCP) will review relevant details from your visit, including the virtual assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan and any necessary follow-up actions.
-
Who are the On-Demand providers? Can they prescribe medication?
A: You’ll meet with a licensed medical provider, such as a physician or advanced practice provider, who is experienced in delivering virtual care for common health concerns. They are licensed to practice in your state and follow the same clinical standards used across Ascension sites of care.
When medically appropriate, your virtual provider can prescribe medications and send prescriptions electronically to your pharmacy. If additional testing, imaging or in-person follow-up is needed, they’ll guide you on the next steps and help coordinate your care.
-
How much does an On-Demand virtual visit cost?
A: On-Demand virtual visits are covered by most insurance plans. If you’re enrolled in an HMO plan, this service may not be available. Your cost will vary based on your coverage but is typically comparable to what you pay for a visit to your primary care doctor at Ascension sites of care. A care navigator can help you understand what to expect before your visit.
-
When should I go to urgent care or the emergency room instead?
A: If you have a life-threatening illness or injury, call 911 or visit your nearest ER. If it’s not an emergency, but you still need in-person care now, you can find an urgent care facility near you.
-
How do I schedule an On-Demand virtual visit?
A: You can schedule a virtual appointment by calling 1-833-982-5881 or using the chat feature to connect with a care navigator. They’ll find a time that works for you.
-
How do I join my On-Demand virtual appointment?
A: You’ll need a device with a camera and microphone (such as a smartphone, computer or tablet) that connects to either Wi-Fi or cellular data service. For the best experience, we recommend connecting to Wi-Fi and taking the visit from a quiet, well-lit, private location where you can talk freely about your health needs and concerns.
After your virtual visit is scheduled, you’ll receive communications containing an electronic consent and registration form. At least 15 minutes before your appointment, we’ll email you a link with more instructions on how to join your virtual visit.
-
How do I see my visit summary after my On-Demand appointment?
A: Similar to how it works when you see your primary care provider at Ascension sites of care, you can view your summary in your patient portal or in the Ascension One app. You can also print or save it to share with other doctors.
-
What if I need follow-up care after my On-Demand visit?
A: If you need more care, your virtual On-Demand provider can help coordinate your care with your primary care physician (PCP) or help you set up an appointment with a PCP who can then facilitate labs, imaging or additional care through an in-person exam, as needed.
