Emergency care close to home
When you choose Lourdes Hospital for your family’s emergency care, you’ll get the right care, at the right place and at the right time. When care is needed right away, we’re close to where you are with 24/7 care for life-threatening and severe illness and injury — including heart attack, stroke, trauma and more. We listen to quickly understand your health needs. Then, we provide care that’s right for you. From the moment you enter the doors, we deliver compassionate care to help you and your loved ones through an emergency.
When your child needs pediatric emergency care, our emergency room provides family-centered care. Children's needs are different from adults, so our doctors and care teams care for kids and their specific needs.
If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, go directly to the ER or dial 911. Signs or symptoms of an acute emergency may include shortness of breath, chest pain, open fracture, fainting, severe bleeding, head injury or other major trauma, one-sided weakness or numbness, loss of consciousness or fainting, severe abdominal pain, or bites or stings.
Reasons to seek emergency care
When you’re having an emergency, getting the right care at the right time is important. Visit an ER if you or a loved one is experiencing:
- A broken bone
- Bites or stings
- Blue face and lips, or pale coloring
- Chest pain
- Difficulty speaking
- Extreme fatigue
- Head injury or other trauma
- Labor pains
- Open fractures
- Severe bleeding
- Severe stomach pain
- Shortness of breath
- Sudden numbness or weakness
Connected to specialized follow-up care
Your care doesn’t stop when you leave the ER. Because we’re more than emergency care, you will be connected to follow-up care to support your care plan and recovery. We connect you to specialists in heart care, orthopedic care, urology and more. Your care team also helps you manage your medications and sends prescriptions to your local pharmacy or through Ascension Rx. And you will always have access to other services at Ascension Lourdes Hospital, like imaging and lab.
Lourdes is a New York State Designated Stroke Center. This means we have met the criteria for stroke center status by demonstrating our abilities to diagnose and treat strokes. This designation encompasses several aspects including trained doctors and nurses able to rapidly identify and treat acute stroke and a comprehensive approach to stroke patients on our inpatient stroke unit.
At Lourdes, we offer the latest technology and medications while treating the stroke patient's entire needs. Care is coordinated from the first point of contact with the patient, whether through the emergency department, our outpatient service areas or our inpatient units.
How do I know if I'm having a Stroke? Please call 911 immediately if you experience:
- Sudden loss of vision in one eye or both
- Sudden loss of strength in a limb
- Sudden loss of sensation over part of your body
- Sudden inability to speak or to understand spoken commands
- Sudden dizziness, loss of balance or lack of coordination
- Sudden severe headache without a known cause
Only a doctor can diagnose a stroke. These symptoms, or warning signs, might come from other causes, but it's important not to delay seeking treatment if they occur, even for a short time. Call 911.
Lourdes Emergency Department includes the Fast Track, specifically designed to care for minor emergencies in a comfortable, convenient setting. The Fast Track is not a walk-in clinic, but rather an integral part of the Emergency Department, designed to facilitate the care of non-critical emergencies. This convenient setting serves to shorten the time patients spend in the Emergency Department. But, if your injury ends up being more extensive, all the resources of a full Emergency Department are available to you. Our Fast Track staff is specially trained and dedicated to treating patients with minor illnesses and injuries.
Fast Track has six rooms with a comfortable waiting area that is separate from the main Emergency Department waiting room.
The Fast Track is open seven days a week:
- Monday: 9:00 AM - 1:00 AM
- Tuesday - Sunday: 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM
