Policy: Many drugs used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder, with or without hyperactivity (ADD/ADHD), are psychostimulants that can produce dependence, both physical and psychological. Abuse of and dependency on these drugs is common. In addition to the difficulties inherent in diagnosing ADD/ADHD, many psychostimulants are being prescribed and used to enhance academic performance. As an abstinence-based program, Ascension Brighton Center for Recovery does not support the use of stimulant medications for the treatment of ADD/ADHD.
