We know that without follow-up treatment, it is easy to fall back into the destructive patterns of substance abuse. Research shows that people are less likely to relapse if they maintain regular post-rehab appointments; attend addiction support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and other 12-step programs; and obtain a sponsor for continued encouragement.
Many people with drug or alcohol dependencies have traveled long distances to get treatment and help for their addictions through Ascension Brighton Center for Recovery. We work with substance-abuse rehabilitation centers in their home communities to create coordinated plans for aftercare. We schedule outpatient post-rehab care prior to discharging our patients. To increase the likelihood of lifelong recovery, we encourage patients to attend support groups in their local areas. Aftercare is also available on campus in the 16-bed Henderson House for Men and in our 16-bed Women’s Halfway House.

Women's Transitional Home
A Sober Housing Option for Women Living in Recovery
The problems caused by drug and alcohol addiction can affect men and women very differently. Almost half of the rehab patients at Ascension Brighton Center for Recovery are women. Even after completing an addiction rehabilitation program, some women find that they are not yet ready to return to their previous living situations.
For any patient, returning home too soon can be detrimental to the success of recovery. By choosing a transitional housing option, patients are assured of a highly structured environment that can consolidate the gains made during drug or alcohol treatment. Such a stay is often the final step in successful treatment.
Women’s Transitional Home at Brighton
Responding to the increasing need for a transitional, sober-living environment for women, we opened a 16-bed home on the Brighton campus. Our Women’s Transitional Home provides a safe, comfortable, and structured living environment that is staffed 24/7 by compassionate and caring individuals. Residents find comfort and security living among women who are on the same path to recovery.
The facility provides continuing access to some of the programs and services that were available during rehab. Although residents continue on an outpatient basis with greater independence, they still benefit from all the support resources Brighton has to offer, including daily educational classes, drug and alcohol counseling in a group-therapy setting, volunteer service opportunities, and job-skills training.
If you would like to be considered for admission to the Women’s Transitional Home, please contact our Customer Service representatives at 877-9-SOBER-1 (877-976-2371).
Men's Transitional Home
Harry Henderson Halfway House
There are times when returning to a previous living environment may threaten a patient’s ability to remain clean and sober. At Ascension Brighton Center for Recovery we recommend patients in these circumstances seek an alternative residence, to help sustain the gains made from drug or alcohol treatment.
The Henderson Halfway House is a 16-bed facility located on the Brighton campus. Its transitional living arrangements help men coming out of treatment to remain sober as they make their way back to the routines of daily life. Professionally managed, Henderson House offers a safe place where men can work on continuing with recovery.
A Model of Transitional Living for Recovering Men
Within a year of opening, the Henderson Halfway House for Men became a model for transitional housing through its innovative programming and staffing. Its location means residents travel only a few yards from outpatient support programs to their temporary home. While residents have greater independence than afforded by inpatient programs, they still participate in individualized therapy, attend morning meditation and evening educational sessions, or attend outpatient drug treatment. This option of transitional living is among the many ways Brighton seeks to achieve complete recovery and to fight relapse.
