True recovery from addiction demands more than abstaining from the drug of choice. It also requires replacing harmful behavior with healthy habits. At Ascension Brighton Center for Recovery, we are equipped and staffed to treat addiction holistically. And we work to place our patients firmly on the path to true and lifelong recovery.
You can choose Brighton for yourself or for a loved one with confidence. Your decision is supported by the latest understanding of how effective recovery works. This includes the following ten (10) identifiers of effective treatment:
Able to quickly establish rapport with patients: Our therapists have the skill and experience to approach the most hard-to-reach patients in a dynamic way. Thus, staff are trained in assisting patients with overcoming feelings of hopelessness, anger, lack of motivation, and resistance to change.
Eliminates stimulants that interfere with recovery: All stimulants, including tobacco, affect the nerves of the brain. This makes it more difficult to quickly access parts of the brain where decisions are made. As a result, making healthy choices becomes more difficult. For this reason, Brighton is a tobacco-free campus. We provide treatment options, medications, and support for helping people move away from such stimulants.
Quiet places for reflection are provided: Recovery depends on self-reflection and self-evaluation. The rural setting of our campus provides many places where a person can reflect and plan a successful recovery.
Family members are provided opportunities to be included in treatment: Many family members are affected by a loved one’s drug or alcohol use. Therefore, effective treatment must include the family. Brighton makes this commitment as part of our basic programs. And we provide additional outpatient therapy sessions for families where needed.
The program is involved with the prevention of addiction: Brighton is committed to keeping the next generation of your family out of our facility. We know that effective efforts at prevention go beyond mere tutoring and childcare. So we include counseling for young people. This is most important for those who have watched a parent struggle with addiction.
Spiritual support is available: Recovery often demands that a person make many changes in deeply ingrained areas of life, all at once. It may be necessary to change friends, routines, and manipulative ways of thinking. Making such large scale changes is inherently a spiritual process. Understanding this, we’ve made spiritual approaches to recovery available as a part of our abstinence-based approach to care.
Extensive aftercare: Recovery does not happen in a few months. So Brighton programs include plans for year-long engagement after a patient leaves our facility.
On-site recovery housing for men and women: The security of a halfway house gives recovery time to really take root. Brighton offers this level of care for women and for men on campus. It’s another part of our complete approach in a familiar setting.
Promotion of good health habits: Replacing harmful substances with a healthy diet is essential. This is because a healthy diet lessens the physical craving to return to drug or alcohol use. Therefore, Brighton broadly emphasizes good nutrition. We employ a staff dietitian who works with our patients on an individual basis. There is no need to have a diagnosis of nutritional deficiency or an eating disorder.
Healthy recreation is strongly promoted: A new, active routine can reduce stress levels and keep the mind clear. This can include exercise, time outdoors, and fresh air. As a part of our commitment to effective care, Brighton has staff who are dedicated to recreation therapy. Healthy activity promotes a sense of normalcy and reduction of stress — both of which are important in starting and sustaining true recovery.
