Getting the emergency care your family needs, when you need it, just got easier. Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast has expanded pediatric emergency care, with close support from the Studer Family Children's Hospital, the region's only children's hospital
The expanded pediatric services include treatment rooms, observation rooms and advanced equipment specially designed for diagnosing and treating medical emergencies in kids. Because coming to the ER is stressful for children and families, the hospital team has worked to make the experience as child-friendly as possible.
The facility is staffed by ER physicians and nurses who have additional training from pediatric critical care specialists and other pediatrics specialists at the Studer Family Children's Hospital.
This new partnership allows for more direct connections between the specialists at Children's Hospital and the ER in Miramar Beach. Children in need of follow-up care after a visit to the pediatric ER have access to the Studer Family Children's Hospital's network of office locations in Destin and Crestview, including pediatric orthopedics, pediatric cardiology, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric urology, pediatric hematology/oncology, pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine.
The ER care team listens to quickly understand your child's health needs. Then, we provide care that's right for your child and your family. Our board-certified emergency care doctors and care teams are specially trained to care for kids and deliver advanced life-saving services. Our pediatric ER was designed with children and families in mind. Colorful waiting areas and exam rooms help put your child at ease, and we use specially designed equipment made just for children. From the moment you walk through the door, we deliver compassionate care to help your family through an emergency.

Caring for sudden, serious illness and injuries in children
Getting colds, bumps and bruises are all part of being a kid. When an illness becomes more severe or your child has a major injury, it may be time to take your child to the ER. Getting the emergency care your child needs when they need it is an important decision. Symptoms and signs that your child needs emergency care include:
- Trouble breathing
- Blue face and lips, or pale coloring
- Chest pain
- Seizure
- Major injury or broken bone
- Severe allergic reaction
- Severe vomiting or diarrhea
- High fever
- Animal bite
- Other serious illness or injury
If your child is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, go directly to the ER or call 911. Signs or symptoms of an acute emergency in children may include: severe vomiting or diarrhea, blue face and lips or pale coloring, high fever, chest pain, seizure, trouble breathing, major injury or broken bone, severe allergic reaction, and animal bites.
