We may also use manual therapy to release overactive muscles or assist underactive pelvic floor muscles, neuromuscular electrical stimulation to help your muscles re-learn needed skills, and education on behavior modifications.
Dry needling is a treatment that uses a thin needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying trigger points in order to increase range of motion and decrease pain. Dry needling can be used on its own or in conjunction with traditional physical therapy. Dry needling can help with numerous diagnoses, including
- Joint pain
- Sports-related tightness
- Migraines & tension-type headaches
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Plantar fasciitis
- Whiplash associated disorders
- Spinal dysfunction
- Shoulder pain
- Nocturnal leg cramps
- Cervical & lumbar pain
For most patients, dry needling is not painful. Generally, the insertion of the needle is not felt. However, the local “twitch response” may provoke a brief feeling of pain that has been described as a tingling, aching or cramping sensation.
